What's VoIP

Print E-mail

VoIP stands for "Voice Over Internet Protocol".

It's a technology which allows you to place phone calls using an Internet connection without going through the traditional phone network.
After the rapid growth of broadband connections, VoIP is booming thanks to easy-to-use applications (ex. Skype), enabling free or very cheap calls over the net.

VoIP was born to allow PC-to-PC voice communications and later evolved enabling phone calls to normal telephones on the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and mobiles as well.
